Judge Yourself
John 4
A Samaritan Woman Meets Her Messiah
1 Therefore, when
the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more
disciples than John 2
(though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples),
3 He left Judea and
departed again to Galilee. 4
But He needed to go through Samaria.
5 So He came to a city
of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to
his son Joseph. 6 Now
Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey,
sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
7 A woman of Samaria
came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.”
8 For His disciples had
gone away into the city to buy food.
9 Then the woman of
Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a
Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and
said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give
Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living
water.”
11 The woman said to
Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do
You get that living water?
12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank
from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”
13 Jesus answered and
said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again,
14 but whoever drinks
of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall
give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting
life.”
15 The woman said to
Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”
16 Jesus said to her,
“Go, call your husband, and come here.”
17 The woman answered
and said, “I have no husband.”
Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’
18 for you have had
five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you
spoke truly.”
19 The woman said to
Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.
20 Our fathers
worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the
place where one ought to worship.”
21
Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither
on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.
22
You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of
the Jews.
23
But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the
Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.
24
God is
Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
25 The woman said to
Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He
will tell us all things.”
26 Jesus said to her,
“I who speak to you am He.”
John 17
Jesus Prays for Himself
1 Jesus spoke these
words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come.
Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,
2 as You have given Him
authority over all flesh, that He should
give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.
3 And this is eternal
life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have
sent. 4 I have
glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to
do. 5 And now, O
Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You
before the world was.
Jesus Prays for His Disciples
6 “I have manifested
Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours,
You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.
7 Now they have known
that all things which You have given Me are from You.
8 For I have given to
them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and
have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You
sent Me.
9 “I pray for them. I
do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are
Yours. 10 And all Mine
are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them.
11 Now I am no longer
in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep
through Your name those whom You have given Me,
that they may be one as We are.
12 While I was with
them in the world,
I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept;
and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might
be fulfilled. 13 But
now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My
joy fulfilled in themselves.
14
I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not
of the world, just as I am not of the world.
15
I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should
keep them from the evil one.
16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them by
Your truth. Your word is truth.
18 As You sent Me into
the world, I also have sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes
I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
Jesus Prays for All Believers
20 “I do not pray for
these alone, but also for those who will
believe in Me through their word;
21 that they all may
be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be
one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
22 And the glory which
You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
23 I in them, and You
in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that
You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
24 “Father, I desire
that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold
My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the
world. 25 O righteous
Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known
that You sent Me. 26
And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love
with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
John 8
The Truth Shall Make You Free
31
Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you
are My disciples indeed.
32
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
33 They answered Him,
“We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How
can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”
34 Jesus answered
them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.
35 And a slave does
not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.
36 Therefore if the
Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
By Grace Through Faith
Ephesians 2
1 And you He
made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
2 in which you once
walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the
power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience,
3 among whom also we
all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires
of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the
others.
4 But God, who is rich
in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
5 even when we were
dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been
saved), 6 and raised
us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places
in Christ Jesus, 7 that
in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His
kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace you have
been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of
God, 9 not of works,
lest anyone should boast. 10
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God
prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
John 14
The Father Revealed
7 “If you had known Me,
you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen
Him.”
8 Philip said to Him,
“Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”
9 Jesus said to him,
“Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has
seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
10 Do you not believe
that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I
do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does
the works. 11 Believe
Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for
the sake of the works themselves.
The Answered Prayer
12
“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he
will do also; and greater
works than these he will do,
because I go to My Father.
13
And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be
glorified in the Son.
14
If you ask
anything in My name, I will do
it.
Jesus Promises Another Helper
15 “If you love Me,
keep
My commandments. 16
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may
abide with you forever— 17
the Spirit of truth, whom the world
cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for
He dwells with you and will be in you.
18
I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
Indwelling of the Father and the Son
19 “A little while
longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live,
you will live also. 20
At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in
you. 21 He who has My
commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be
loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”
1 John 2
Let Truth Abide in You
18 Little children, it
is the last hour; and as you have heard that the
Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that
it is the last hour. 19
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they
would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made
manifest, that none of them were of us.
20 But you have an
anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.
21 I have not written
to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no
lie is of the truth.
22 Who is a liar but
he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father
and the Son. 23
Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the
Son has the Father also.24
Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you
heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in
the Father. 25 And
this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
26 These things I have
written to you concerning those who try to deceive you.
27 But the anointing
which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone
teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is
true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide
in Him. 28 And now,
little children, abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have
confidence and not be ashamed before Him at His coming.
29 If you know that He
is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of Him.
1 Corinthians 11
23 For I
received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord
Jesus on the
same night in which He was betrayed took bread;
24 and when He
had given thanks, He broke
it and said, “Take, eat;
this is My body which is broken
for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
25 In the same
manner
He also
took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup
is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink
it,
in remembrance of Me.”
26 For as often
as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death
till He comes.
Examine Yourself
27 Therefore
whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an
unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood
of the Lord. 28
But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink
of the cup. 29
For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner
eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s
body. 30 For
this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.
31 For if we
would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.
32 But when we
are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned
with the world.
33 Therefore, my
brethren, when you come together to eat, wait for one another.
34 But if anyone
is hungry, let him eat at home, lest you come together for judgment. And
the rest I will set in order when I come
